Monday - June 30th - Guatemalan Army Day

Yesterday was Guatemalan Army Day and from the little spanish I can gather from the blogs - it seems to be a day that the army celebrates but the guatemalan people's memories are still fresh from the bloodshed and disappearance of their relatives by the army during the civil war. It is a staged holiday by the gov't. So in light of the wonderful weather, we went to stonestreet elementary to play on their new 2-5yr old playground. it was ironic since my grandmother taught there for many years before she retired. i used to go help her set up her third grade classroom in the week before school started. that was pretty cool when you are in elementary school yourself! of course i had to grab shep a few times when he was just inches from falling. and samantha spun off this spinning seat and right onto the mulch! It was pretty crazy but we survived!
